What's The Point of Life?
It's an age-old question. One which many people smarter than me have asked.
Think of all the ancient philosophers, scientists and everyday people who've pondered this question and debated the answer.
Here in 2021, we're still none the wiser. Is the purpose of life to accumulate as much money as possible? Is it to live your life to the fullest? Or is it to devote yourself to a singular purpose and see it through?
You could make a case for all three. Equally, you could dismiss each one. The truth is we're no closer to knowing the answer today than we were in Socrates' time.
Your life is a blink of the eye in cosmic terms. A blip on a billion-year graph. We like to think what we do echoes in eternity. In reality, it barely registers.
Reading this might make you feel down, pessimistic, or downright miserable. Unfortunately, the truth is uncomfortable.
But, there is a silver lining. While we have no iron law regarding the point of life, this may be a blessing in disguise.
Maybe the way to look at the question isn't to find the answer but to find an answer. An answer unique to you.
If you polled 100 people, you might not get 100 different answers, but you wouldn't get one answer either. It's an open-ended question, so it shouldn't be a surprise when there are multiple answers.
Perhaps the point of life isn't as high-minded or mundane as we think. Our existence may be shared, but it's lived differently.
The point of life is what you determine it to be.
Far from fretting about what the answer is, you should have fun trying to discover an answer.
